Ceremony Music
For North Indian ceremonies, we recommend shehnai-style music, focusing on festive Hindustani (North Indian classical) ragas. This can be performed by a saxophone-tabla duo or by solo saxophone. For South Indian ceremonies, we can also provide music featuring Karnatak ragas and compositions. We can provide a saxophone-mridangam duo or solo saxophone. We work with the family and the priest, and take cues from the flow of the ceremony so that the music we provide best enhances the ceremony.
Background Music for Cocktails or Dinner
We recommend Natraj’s blend of Indian classical music and jazz for cocktails, dinner, or other background music. This is a very effective way of providing music that bridges cultures and appeals to guests of different backgrounds and cultures. Indian guests love the sound of Indian classical ragas on instruments such as saxophone, violin, and string bass. American guests love the jazz-based grooves and harmonies. This music offers something for everyone. We generally suggest the full Natraj quintet for this purpose. We can also provide duo, trio, or quartet, if desired.
