Sam Houston Park, shaded by the skyscrapers of the nation's largest city, is the oldest municipal park in Houston. The Heritage Society (THS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1954 to care for the historical structures in the park. One of these is the 1891 St. John Church. Moved to the park from Spring Branch in 1968, this beautiful one room structure is of a Gothic Revival style of architecture. Elements include arched windows and shutters as well as a coved ceiling with rounded corners which provides excellent acoustics. This unique church holds up to 65 people and comes with availability of a surface parking lot.
