Providence, RI – Despite last year’s SCOTUS decision regarding LGBT marriage recognition, many LGBT couples still find it challenging and awkward to plan their weddings with complete openness and joy. Approaching wedding vendors one by one, at storefronts or online, can prove time-consuming and discouraging. Walking through a traditional ‘bridal fair’ leaves gay grooms at once feeling discounted, and oftentimes brings LGBT couples face-to-face with vendors who are not yet truly comfortable with same-sex marriage, or worse, not supportive at all.
Since 2003, the founders of RainbowWeddingNetwork.com have sought to transform that experience. Producing an ongoing national tour of LGBT Wedding Expos, the lesbian-owned company has brought over 150 signature events to 30 states, and continues expanding its circuit every year.
"It is truly a victory for our minority that same-gender commitments are now being recognized throughout the country," says RainbowWeddingNetwork co-founder Cindy Sproul. "And it’s an historic time, one for celebration. But there’s more work to be done. LGBT couples still have trouble, in many states, finding wedding vendors who will serve them with respect and happiness. Anti-LGBT legislation is still making the headlines. In many locations, couples can marry in the morning but get fired that afternoon for being lesbian or gay. Prospective LGBT parents still encounter difficulties with the foster and adoption process. That’s why Expos like ours are still a much-needed resource.”
RainbowWeddingNetwork’s 4th Annual ‘Same Love, Same Rights’® LGBT Wedding Expo in Providence will be held Sunday July 31st, 2016, in honor of the anniversary of marriage equality in Rhode Island and will spotlight a diversity of screened, LGBT-friendly wedding and home-related vendors in an elegant and welcoming atmosphere. Hosted once again by the Providence Marriott Downtown, the afternoon will offer couples the opportunity to mingle with informed & enthusiastic professionals, eager to help them bring together the details for their Dream Weddings. Food Samples, Trendy Planning Ideas, an LGBT-specific Dance Performance & Raffle Giveaways will also be highlights of the event. The Expo is free for couples to attend, and all budgets are welcome. Friends, family, hetero- allies & other advocates of equal rights are welcome to join the celebration. A turnout of approximately 300 is expected for this unique event.
“Couples, their wedding party & LGBT allies will gather together at the Expo,” says Sproul. “Couples are planning their ceremonies & honeymoons, and wedding professionals are meeting new clients. But more than that, this will be an afternoon for everyone to join together & envision the next steps for the LGBT community in the Providence area as well as throughout the country. The more cohesive our community becomes, the sooner we’ll achieve lasting equality throughout the nation."
