David and Steve

Texas - Steve (he's on the left) has been married 3 times and I, twice. Steve has just had bad luck with his former partners and they broke up after extensive relationships; my former partner died 2 years ago from liver cancer. Anyway, we met on the internet. And the first time we saw each other in person was when I picked him up at the airport here in Austin, Texas. You see, he had moved down lock, stock, and barrel on only the promise of love from a man he had never met (that's me) except on the net and through extensive telephone calls - fortunately he paid the bill for these.

August 7th 2005 - I'll never forget waiting for Steve at the baggage claim. And there he was coming down the concourse stairs all tall and hunky. Lord knows, I was just downright smitten. Later on he told me the same. So, Aug. 7th is the date we're celebrating our anniversary and plan a ceremony to be held this coming Aug. 7th, 2006.

Since Steve and I are humanists we don't set all that much truck in traditional ceremonies with all the God stuff thrown in. Of course we'll have some mention of God so our friends who believe will feel comfortable. However, I bet 99.9% of the ceremony will be affirmations of love and our dedication to each other and humanity.

We've ordered rings from the local Celtic store - sterling silver (neither of us likes gold) with Celtic knots. We're going to wear them before the wedding and then sometime around Aug. 7 have them engraved inside with our initials and wedding date.

Yeah, I know - we're in Texas, but at least it's Austin. Even if gay marriage never passes, we've got all out contingency plans laid out. Love is and love will be.

Hang in there ever'body. If love can come to these 55 and 56 year old men, just think . .. .you're most likely next.
