The story starts months ago when Nikke came home one day from shopping at the mall. She made the announcement that she had found the perfect engagement ring for Bri. Bri was speechless and gawked with surprise, as this topic had not come up before in such a serious manner. Bri spent time processing internally, reflecting on all her flaws and insecurities. During a deep and intimate talk immediately following, Bri discussed these with Nikke and realized in that moment, Nikke was with the most perfect person in the world for her because she was able feel vulnerable, as if she didn't have skin, and find comfort in that feeling. Being the girls they are, they pulled up websites and found the spoken of ring online. The next day, Nikke convinced Bri to go to the mall to see it in person. It was absolutely perfect and sparkled with dreams of the life they wanted together. Bri insisted that they find one that Nikke would love just as much, after all, Nikke deserved a diamond as beautiful as her soul. With the mission set, they were shown several rings until just the right one caught Nikke's eye. They were quick to decide to put them on layaway, "just in case." Months rolled by and they celebrated their one year anniversary in January. February showed up and they celebrated Valentine's Day. At Valentine's dinner, Nikke, who is always super sneaky with surprises, had one more present to give her beloved. Bri opened the bag and found a stuffed monkey holding a black velvet jewelry box. Instantly she assumed it was the engagement ring and showed shock and surprise. Bri opened the box to find the most beautiful diamond earrings and they had a laugh. Nikke took this opportunity to lay some sneaky groundwork and say she didn't have the engagement ring out yet and that it would be a long time to pay it off. Bri took this as a sign that she had just as much time to work on paying off Nikke's and was sure she would be the first one to propose. Two weeks flew by and the night of February 25th, a Thursday, Bri came home from work and Nikke announced she hid something in the apartment that Bri needed to find. Being preoccupied with school and work, Bri half-looked, but didn't give it much dedication. Nikke knew this would happen ahead of time and knew that the next night she would have Bri's full attention for an all-out game of hot-cold hide and seek. The following night, Friday, February 26th, Nikke called Bri as she left work and said they would be playing a game when she got home and that she made coffee to ensure Bri had enough energy to play it out. Bri arrived home and Nikke said she hid something that needed to be found in order for Bri to get her present. One was incredibly obvious since it had been placed the night before. Bri started looking around the first floor and came across a tiny little rubber monkey sitting casually in the empty picture on the wall. With this find, Nikke directed her to her first present and the game went on...find a monkey, get a present. Bri found all five solitary monkeys and received five thoughtful presents. Nikke exclaimed that there was one last surprise and that Bri needed to find the bunch of monkeys that were all together. With help from Nikke's hot or cold directions, Bri located the bunch of monkeys in a lantern hanging from the ceiling next to the steps. She then directed Bri to sit on the steps next to the stuffed monkey and "empty" jewelry box from the earrings given on Valentine's Day. Nikke told Bri that her present was right there and Bri was confused and dumbfounded. Being under the impression that the jewelry box was still the one from the earrings she was currently wearing, she looked puzzled at Nikke. Nikke directed her to open the box. To Bri's astonishment, the box had been switched out for a look-alike, unbeknownst to Bri, a week prior. Inside the box sparkled the wedding band of the set they had chosen, but no engagement ring. Bri thought this was an incredibly sweet gesture on Nikke's part as a promise for later. Nikke then got down on one knee and pulled a white heart-shaped ring box from her pocket. She professed her undying love and asked Bri to be her wife as she opened the box to reveal the engagement ring. Bri said yes as both their eyes filled up with tears of joy and happiness, knowing that their future together was destined for greatness.
Nikke and Bri both work at the same company and one day, they were both outside on a smoke break at the same time. Nikke gushed about the one-year birthday party she had thrown for her puppy, Ocho. Later that evening, Bri rushed home and called her friend Bob with anticipation and excitement, knowing that something sparked, but she was unsure. Weeks rolled by and Nikke and Bri saw each other in passing, making light comments about the weather and being sick from time to time. Secretly, Nikke had been playing Sherlock Holmes via her good friend Rob to find more out about Bri. Rob, growing mildly annoyed at the amount of conversation around this topic, urged Nikke to send Bri a message through Myspace and ask her out. Feeling bold, Nikke sent this message only to wait all night in anticipation of a response. The next morning, Bri found this message and immediately called Bob. The message had been written in such a manner that it was unclear if it was a date or not. The message read: "Uhm don't really see ya at work much except for random passings... I was wondering if you would like to go out sometime? :) I really enjoyed the short conversation we had that one day and I was hoping to get to talk a little more. Text if that's preferable... (phone number here)...PS this is Nikke." After thorough analysis with Bob deciding how to reply and a little Myspace stalking, Bri said "Sure, that sounds a jolly time. Let me know what you want to do." From there it was text messaging galore until the actual date the following day. And the adventure began.…
